The Virginia Science Olympiad (VASO) is a team competition in which students compete in events that cover different areas of science, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, technology, and engineering. Students in grades 3-5 are eligible to participate in Division A of the Science Olympiad. This was the first year Armstrong participated in VASO thanks to parent volunteers Harsha Mehta and Kendra Outlaw!

Benefits of joining the VASO are that children learn science outside of school, get advanced scientific knowledge, acquire research skills, collaborate with other students, and have fun! Armstrong students researched and studied their event topics outside of school over the last 2 months in order to prepare for the tournament.

23 Armstrong students participated at the Division A Regional VASO Tournament on Saturday, December 7th at Langley High School. Out of 24 possible events, Armstrong students participated in 16 of them earning 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places in some events!  Armstrong was one of 19 FCPS elementary schools participating.
